Grammatical Phenomena in the Shadhdh Readings of the Qur’an

by

Prof. Hasan Mahmud Hindawi*

The shadhdh Readings of the Glorious Qur’an are considered to be a rich source of prose specimens of Arabic containing many phenomena of syntax and morphology which the mutawatir Readings do not contain.

This paper has studied three of the shadhdh Readings: two of them are from surat al-Baqarah, and one from surat Ibrahim. This was done with a view to make this study an example of the ihmal of the infinitive an. The researcher has examined the views of the grammarians pertaining to this rule and the examples they have mentioned in this regard.
