DEVELOPMENT OF ĂILM AL-TAFSIR IN BOSINA & HEZEGOVINA IN THE 20th CENTURY

Dr Almir Fatić*

The history of Ăilm al-tafsąr in Bosnia and Herzogovina is divided into two periods:  the traditional period and the modern period. This same view is held by Prof. Dr Enes Karić, Professor of Tafsąr at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Sarajevo who is the best authority on the history of tafsąr in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The traditional period lasted till 1878 when Bosnia became part of the Hungarian-Austrian Empire. After that commenced the modern period of tafsąr.

The paper deals with the second period known as the modern period. As the title of the paper confines the development of Ăilm al-tafsąr to the 20th century, we shall deal with the achievements in the field of tafsąr in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the beginning of the 21st century.
