‘Uthmānic Orthography in al-Tabari’s Tafsir of the Glorious Qur’an: a Critical Presentation

This study aims at presenting the principles of ‘Uthmanic Orthography as found in al-Tabari’s Tafsir, and the extent to which later scholars relied on them. It is an important aspect and deserves our attention because al-Tabari’s Tafsir is an important document in the science of Orthography and its development. This study aims also at highlighting the elements contained in the Tafsir which do not conform to the established rules of this science. This study has come to the conclusion that al-Tabari’s Tafsir conforms to most of the established principles and rules of the science of  ‘Uthmanic Orthography.
