Problem of Translating Some Grammatical Peculiarities in the Glorious Qur’an: A Comparative Study
Problem of Translating Some Grammatical Peculiarities in the Glorious Qur’an
A Comparative Study
Dr Nada Muhammad Jamil Birinji*
Allah the Almighty revealed the Glorious Qur’an in the classical Arabic, which is known for its own peculiarities on the orthographic, grammatical and rhetorical levels. Those who are not familiar with the characteristics of the Arabic language claimed that they have found mistakes in areas of language, grammar and spelling in some ayahs of the Glorious Qur’an. This made us wonder whether the translation of these peculiarities had represented a problem to the translators. By comparing, analyzing and evaluating twenty-four translations of the meanings of the Glorious Quran into French, we came to know how these characteristics pertaining to the plural, the pronouns, the relative pronouns and the proper names have been translated. We found that the Muslims, converts to Islam and the Arab translators were more efficient in their translations than others.
